Black History Fact

As we see the condition of the country is yet experiencing systemic racism, racism is alive and well in 21st century in America. Blacks have faced the battle of racism on numerous levels. The color of police violence, housing racial, job discrimination, disadvantage conditions and lack of governmental services have been hidden causes in the black community. These are a few instances of how America has not respected the value of black life.

In this space, I would like to highlight an inhumane and cruel dimension on a black history fact of servitude and slavery.

Chattels Personal

Today I would like to expound on what Black slaves was considered as from the slave master. Blacks was considered as property as far back as the 1600's to the slave owners. Slavery was cruel, it could be found in many places, from antiquity to very recent times. Africans was first brought to Jamestown, Virginia in 1619 and sold as "servants for life". In 1817 the court of Mississippi established a law called chattel slavery. A law and custom that meant slaves were the personal property of their owners which could be bought, sold, traded and inherited. A form of human property that was legally regarded under some state laws, they were reduced to the status of property.

Chattels Personal was the most heinous type of human slavery in which a slave was a possession that could be bought, sold, or assigned at the will of the owner. The chattel was property with no rights or liberties. The master viewed the chattel as property that could be bartered as property. They were utilized as a structure to bring wealth, some Europeans named them as "Black Gold". Chattel slavery was not a moral term to use, although it was regarded and routinely practice disgracing the slaves that were bought from one continent to another against their will. Overall, the slave was treated as a productive animal and not a human by the slave owner which was considered the master's valuable piece of property. Chattel slavery than any form of human slavery is a moral evil.

Toward the end of the day black history is qualified to be studied; black history shouldn't be confined to one month,
Black history is You, Me, and the Generations to come...Legacy!!!

I would state in my conclusion "Black History" ought to be a significant important subject integrated in our educational systems to educate our children and to help raise black culture consciousness in America.

  3. My Sister In Christ, Thank you so much for the Black History lesson. When people of color, that know the history behind slavery, see those Confederate statues, they see the evil, hatred, murder, rape, molestation, mutilation, castration, and willful evil unnecessary untimely deaths of their people. They see strange fruit hanging on southern trees. The strange fruit is Black men, women, and children made in the image of God hanging from those trees.

Black men, women, and children see the death of their freedom and the heinous crimes committed against them (that we can't even imagine) simply because of the color of their skin.
